Many doctors speak of the immune system. However, the body's response to outside attack involves most body systems to some degree. Thus, I prefer to speak of the immune response, rather than calling it a system. Symptoms of an impaired immune response include recurrent infections, fatigue, infections that won't clear up completely, or a tendency to 'catch' whatever is going around. The immune response is also impaired in all cases of cancer, systemic yeast infection, chronic fatigue syndromes, chronic Epstein-Ban virus syndrome, Lyme disease if it is active, AIDS and many other chronic illness syndromes.
As unusual as it might sound, the immune response is not what I'll call a primary response. It is a critically important response, but comes secondary to other responses. For example let's say that a crocodile jumped out at you. Your body would immediately go into the fight or flight response. As a result, the fighting off of a bacteria or virus in this scenario is far less important than surviving the crocodile attack. In other words the immune system often takes a back seat to the stress response.
Now while we may not live our lives with a crocodile attacking us, most would agree that we live busy and stressed filled lives. As a result our fight or fight response is often chronically engaged and our immune system chronically depressed.
A client who has been on the Nutritional Balancing program for about 18 months recently spoke to me about his immune system. About 6 months ago he went temporarily off the supplements he was taking. Shortly after this, his fatigue and healing time after a workout dramatically increased. He was tired all the time and having to take some days off work. About 2 months ago he went back on the supplements and started feeling better again.
The fact he started feeling better again with the supplements though is not the main point of this blog. The main point is that a few weeks ago he was told that he has been exposed to ross river fever, dengue, and legionnaire's. These are potentially very serious diseases. The doctor told him he would have expected him to have been in the hospital! The fact that he wasn't is a testament to the fact that when he was on his supplements and Nutritional Balancing program he was able to keep the immune attacking illnesses at bay! When he stopped the supplements he suffered more, and when he got back on them he recovered. He is now on the right track and understanding that he needs to protect his energy and nutrients to allow his body to fully heal over the coming number of months
The immune system is critical to your health and wellbeing and is like any other organ or tissue. It responds when you provide the nutrients and remove the damaging stressors. A nutritional balancing program can help with your immune system and response.
